tower before roof failure main picy repair window

The Old West Bexhill railway station, since becoming redundant had many uses over the ensuing years. We successfully won the tender to refurbish the building at the end of a commercial tenancy. We started work in early 2011 and the value of the project was iro £60K . The refurbishment was very wide ranging and included all the normally expected deterioration of plaster, render, masonry, joinery and glazing. Once scaffold was erected and a detailed examination was facilitated two particular areas of work gave concern.

The first was the now obvious poor condition of the clock tower and the second the condition of the roof covering in various isolated areas. Ranging over the fragile roof presented its own challenges however we were, with great care, able to reach and repair the various small sections of deterioration without detriment to the remaining vast roof area.

The clock tower required very careful deconstruction and then reconstruction. This was carried out using the most resilient joinery available and we were able to carefully reproduce the original moulds and and timber panels that make it such a remarkable feature of the building.

Redecoration and surface repair of the vast internal spaces was made more efficient with the use of mobile elevated platforms internally.

And finally with masonry and render repairs completed to the external features a full decoration specification was completed to return the property back to its former glory. We were extremely pleased and proud to have played our part in this famous old building's restoration.
